Workday, Inc. has launched a new AI-driven learning platform, Workday Learning, which replaces generic employee training with guidance tailored to each worker’s actual role. The platform utilizes Sana’s AI-native learning technology, combining Workday’s people and skills data with Sana’s tools.
The company developed the tool to address a common complaint from learning and development teams, where employees often complete required training without retaining or applying the material. Joel Hellermark, Workday’s Chief AI Officer, noted that checking the box is not the same as building a skill.
Workday Learning provides each employee with a personal AI tutor, allowing workers to ask questions in plain language and receive responses tied to their specific role, skills, and goals. The system also recommends learning paths based on an employee’s current position and required skills.

A built-in search function surfaces direct answers, eliminating the need for employees to search through long training modules. For instance, a question about handling a customer data request could return a specific policy explanation, making it more useful than requiring someone to complete an entire compliance course.
The platform’s authoring tools have enabled some organizations to cut content creation time by as much as 98%, with projects that once took weeks now taking only hours. Customers have also reported compliance reporting up to five times faster and learner engagement three times higher compared to legacy systems.
The use of AI-native learning technology in Workday Learning is a key factor in its ability to provide personalized guidance to employees. This technology, combined with Workday’s people and skills data, enables the platform to provide highly relevant and effective learning experiences.
